What’s a Smarty Cat?
Smarty Cats is Operation Kindness' latest initiative to keep
our felines minds' sharp and to help those who are more reserved come out of
their shell and find their adoptive home.
Smarty Cat volunteers will arrive at specific times to work
with our feline pets providing them with daily enrichment activities to keep
active cats busy and to keep our felines moving and healthy.
Smarty Cat volunteers will also help some of our more
reserved felines, working with them on people and touch desensitization to get
them acclimated to the shelter and build confidence.
How does all this work? Once each Smarty Cat Volunteer has
completed training they will either follow our daily enrichment schedule providing
different activities and puzzles to our felines. Or they will work with our
more cautious cats using a socialization plan which outlines specific goals for
each feline to master helping them become more comfortable and confident in the
shelter.
How does this Help Our Cats?
Mental and physical exercise keeps pets healthy and happy
and ready to meet adopters. Socialization work with felines helps us make them
more comfortable building a positive association with people helps in finding their
adoptive home.
